HISTORY:

Then known as Project 1, the Holy Family Parish had its beginnings in 1949, when it was taken as part of the Sacred Heart Parish in Kamuning, Quezon City.  The residents felt the need for having Sunday masses, and parishioners took the initiative of requesting for a priest who would celebrate Mass every Sunday in the Roxas District.  The request was granted and every Sunday, Fr. Tomas Pacano, SVD, would celebrate Mass under a big Acacia tree where the General Roxas Elementary School now stands. .After the community clamoured for more permanent and fitting place of worship, Fr. Pacano and some residents had a small chapel built for the faithful.

The church was blessed and inaugurated on the feast of the holy family in January 1953.  On September 16, 1953, the place was made a parish under the patronage of the holy family.

HISTORY:

What used to be rice paddies sixty-eight years ago now stands the Immaculate Conception cathedral, the new seat of the Diocese of Cubao.  Since 1935, the SVD priests of Christ the King Mission Seminary celebrated mass in a small chapel near the present Cubao rotonda, headed by Fr. Henry Desmond.  Sunday masses were held from the Carbonell residence in Manga road to Quonset mess halls.  On December 8, 1949, the patron saint San Isidro Labrador was changed to Our lady of the Immaculate Conception.

On July 15, 1950, the Immaculate Conception Parish was canonically erected with Fr. Juan Simon, SVD, as its first parish priest.  On the feast of Immaculate Conception, December 8, 1950, the cornerstone of what is now Immaculate Conception Church was laid and blessed by the Most Reverend Vicente Reyes.  On April 30, 1990, Msgr. Reynaldo Y. Celso was installed as the first diocesan clergy by his Eminence, Jaime Cardinal L. Sin.  He served for ten years until he was assigned to another parish.

On August 28, 2003, the Immaculate Conception was liturgically proclaimed a Cathedral; thus, it is now called the Immaculate Conception Cathedral.  His Excellency, the Most Rev. Honesto F. Ongtioco was installed as the new Bishop of Cubao.

Since the time of SVD and up to the present, the Parish has been promoting, building and forming Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) in the different areas.  Aside from BEC, evangelization, sacramental preparations of cathechism, ministries expansion,  and social services and stewardship are the Parish’s pastoral priorities.

HISTORY:

The present parish of the Most Holy Redeemer, began with the chapel of the Most Holy Trinity Parish in Balic-balic in Sampaloc, Manila.  On September 20, 1954, the Most Holy Redeemer Parish was established, its territory obtained from the Holy Trinity and Sacred Heart parishes.  The parish church was solemnly dedicated on 4 March 1962, by the late Cardinal Rufino J. Santos.  The spiritual care of the parish was entrusted to the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, with Fr. Andrew Cornsten as pastor.  The religious fathers administered the parish until 1973, when it was handed over to the diocesan clergy.  Its first diocesan parish priest was Msgr. Martin Guballa.

A year after, again because of the increasing population and the growing number of Catholics, the parish was devided in two, giving birth to a new parish – the Our Lady of Fatima parish, located on Cinderella Street in Galas, Quezon City.

HISTORY:

The Our Lady of Fatima Parish used to be a chapel community of the Most Holy Redeemer Parish in Brixton Hills, under the care of the Sacred Heart Missionaries.  The chapel was built mainly because of the stories about the shower of petals in a house located at the corner of Luskot and Cordillera streets, which was adjacent to the house of the MSC fathers.  Upon hearing these stories, the faithful in the area flocked to the site, and prompted them to build a make-shift chapel.   They eventually realized the need for a church of their own.  A vacant lot along Alcam St. (now Lourdes Castillo Street) was chosen as the site.  In 1973, diocesan clergy took over administration of the Most Holy Redeemer Parish from the MSC fathers.

On May 18, 1974, Archbishop Sin visited the Most Holy Redeemer Parish, after which he also visited the chapel community of Our Lady of Fatima.  Seeing the need to address more deeply the spiritual needs of the community, he announced right there and then that Our Lady of Fatima Parish be established formally.  Three days after, the decree came for the creation of the new parish, and four days later, Fr. Agerico Galang was installed as the first parish priest.

HISTORY:

The construction in 1954 of the Shrine of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel began at the same time the Order of Discalced Carmelites was founded in the Archdiocese of Manila.  A piece of property along Broadway Street was acquired to start the difficult task of building, not only a religious house for the Carmelite Irish Friars, but also a shrine in honor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.  On December 31, 1954, the cornerstone of the church was blessed by the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, Archbishop Egidio Vagnozzi.

Ten years later, the Shrine of Mary was inaugurated on the feast of Mt. Carmel, with Rufino Cardinal Santos as main celebrant.  In 1975, after a lot of improvement and development in religious activities and the active participation of the faithful in the community, the Mt. Carmel Shrine was elevated to a parish church, and Fr. Paul O’Sullivan was appointed parish priest.  He was installed by the auxiliary bishop of Manila, the Most Rev. Juan Velasco, O.P. [One of the parish priests of the Mt. Carmel Shrine-Parish became the present Bishop Rolando Tirona of the Prelature of Infanta.  On July 6, 2000 the Mt. Carmel Shrine-Parish celebrated its silver anniversary as a parish.

HISTORY:

Kamuning, formerly  known as Barrio Obrero II, was a housing project site for government employees and their families.  Late in 1939, the Kamuning Residents’ Association sought pastoral care from the Society of the Devine World (SVD).  The First Mass was celebrated where the Kamuning Public Market now stands, on that year’s Christmas Eve. In the early 1940’s, the parish boundaries reached as far east toward Loyola Heights and westward up to the Mabuhay Rotonda.  About a year later, on October 1, 1941, the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish was established, and it has been in the care of the SVD missionaries since then.  Today, the parish covers five barangays – Kamuning, Sacred Heart, South Triangle, Kristong Hari, Kalusugan, and part of Obrero.  The parish has a resident population of a little over 45,000.

HISTORY:

The community started as a quasi-parish in 1978 under the patronage of St. Paul the Apostle.  Parish work was initiated by laymen, with the assistance of the RVM Superior of St. Mary’s College.  The quasi-parish was originally supervised by the SVD priests of the Sacred Heart Parish in Kamuning and later by the Sacred Heart Missionary Fathers.  Masses were held at St. Mary’s College Auditorium while other liturgical needs were served at a temporary chapel in the Dionisio Compound on Scout Magbanua.

On September 21, 1979, the parish was established by the Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin.  The MSC fathers continued giving their services until April 16, 1980, when Msgr. Celso Ditan took over.  He was formally installed as the first parish priest on April 27, 1980.  The Parish Pastoral Council successfully acquired a lot for the church on August 19, 1983.  It was solemnly blessed and dedicated to St. Paul the Apostle on July 10, 1986.
